I am trying to capture my VHS collection using Studio Plus V11 + Dazzle 90. If I go through the entire process right down to the burning of the DVD using Studio 11, everything works fine. Meaning I can play the DVD on my DVD player connected to my TV. If I select to just create the image files in Studio, but don't burn then open the files with DVD Shrink and burn the DVD does not play. I just get an error on the DVD player. Any thoughts. It has to be something witht he compression process in DVD Shrink, and the Studio 11 files but I don't know what.

Why are you using such a large font ?

Where does Shrink fit into this process ?

DVD Shrink does not encode. It re-arranges the data inside the encoding done by your encoder. It does not harm the video, other than reduce quality.

If Studio 11 is producing a DVD structure that is too large to burn, then learn how to configure it so you get the correct size to begin with. The quality will be higher, and the process simpler.

If the DVD structure produced does already fit (i.e. the ISO is ready to burn) then there is no place for DVD Shrink in your process.

Finally, DVD Shrink does not burn. It has no burning engine of it's own, but uses either Nero, CopyToDVD or DVD Decrypter to burn. You tell it which. If the DVD does not play after burning through Shrink, it is most likely an issue with whatever burning engine you are using.

Use Imgburn to burn your files. It can burn ISO files in Write mode, or DVD Video files in Build mode.

Some of the things you replied I already know, but others I do not know. The reason I posted this question and came to this forum was because of exactly that. I could use some definitive answers here, not arogance. Thank you...

I gave you answers. You gave so little detail, and haven't added to it after I asked questions, that there is nothing to go on. What do you expect ?

    OK, some specific questions.

    1. Why are you using DVD Shrink ?
    2. Which burning engine are you using ?
    3. Why are you producing an ISO file ?
    4. Is you ISO file to big to fit on a DVD5 as-is ?

Answer those, and any other details you can think of, perhaps regarding your Studio settings, and perhaps you will get something more definitive. We can only go from what you provide.

    1. To compress the image files created by Studio 11
    2. Nero
    3. I am not producing an ISO file. Studio produces the exact same files it burns to disc onto the hard drive without burning. The same folder/files I find on every other DVD I put into my PC. VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders. Then I use DVD Shrink to compress the whole thing and Nero burns it. That is where everything goes to the dogs.
    4. Yes the files becomes to big. I would need a DVD-DL, which I'd rather not spend the money for.
I had done this before some years back, maybe a different version of Studio and Nero is the issue I don't know, but I have not been able to figure out how to capture the video and then render it so it becomes small enough to burn to a DVD +/- R.

So the references to ISO have gone.

So back to my first post

    1. The best solution is to produce a DVD5 sized output from studio to begin with. This is always preferable to use DVD Shrink. To do this you need to set the bitrate options correctly to match the target size you want to meet. If, for some reason you are unable to do this

    2. Write the results from Shrink to a folder on your HDD. Do create an ISO or burn to DVD at this time. Test play the files using a good software player and see if they play. If they do, burn to a DVD5 with Imgburn. If the files refuse to play, go back and test play the output from Studio, as it is more likely that studio is producing broken output than Shrink is.

I don't know if I have a DVD5 option. Like I said before, I tested Studio and let it go through the whole process and burn a 15 minute segment of video without using DVD Shrink. That did play on any player that I have. So something is obviously going wrong by using DVD Shrink in this way. If I use it on a regular boxed DVD Shrink works fine.

Setup -> Disk Options there is a drop down selector for the target DVD size 4.7/8.5, and set Video quality to Automatic.

Not tried it, but it should work?

If you haven't tested the output of Shrink on your PC before burning then you haven't ruled out a burning issue yet.
