I was surprised to find after installing Roxio WinOnCD 5 that Roxio had installed (without any warning) a dummy CD-ROM drive with an icon called Emulator. I was scared to find it in my Devices List and removed it in the Control Panel System Devices Properties dialog. I started getting hang-ups with Blue Screen at the Start of Windows. After restoring the Dummy Drive, the Blue Screen disappeared.

Could anyone explain what is the purpose of this Dummy drive and what are these files with extensions iso and c2d which the emulator is supposed to open? How and where do we use them?

Is there any way to advise Roxio to warn customers before installing such uninvited devices on users’ systems? Could they at least provide their Help File in English so that one could perhaps understand what is all this Dummy drive for?

    Thanks.

  2. That's a virtual DVD-CD ROM drive and its installation is optional and selectable during WinOnCD installation.
It works perfect and you can load your image files to the drive before burning for test purposes.
If you didn't like to have it, you were able to unselect it when performing WinOnCD installation!!!!!
and in my eXPerience it has not caused any crash!
If you want the English help file and manual/tips e-mail me. Maybe I send them to you at a later time.

I understand what this Emulator drive is doing but I have not seen any files with the two extensions listed there. Which applications save files in those two formats? Thanks for your clarification.

I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD SEND ME THE HELP FILE AND TIPS FOR WINONCD 5.

    YOU WILL BE MY SAVIOUR.

Doesn't winoncd makes c2d files when you choose to make an image instead of burning? And then you can open and emulate that image as a cdrom.
