    hello,
i had two separate mp4 files and i joined them using YAMB after joining them i played the joint file on VLC player and VLC still gives the timing of the old unjoint file.

file 1 was 1:17 hours long
file 2 was 1:19 hours long

joint file is 2:37 hours long

when i play the joint file in VLC it comes up as being 1:17 long and when it reaches the end of the 1:17 it continues to play the remaining length but having reached the end of the timer and the slider has reached the end of the bar.

it plays fine on windows media player.
    can anybody help.

Sounds like YAMB (never used it) did not properly recreate the header information.

You might try opening the file in VirtualDubMod and saving it, but save it using Direct Stream Copy. If you are lucky, the saved file will have the correct time code. I think VirtualDubMod might also be able to combine the files, but I don't know how to do that with this tool.

  6. I waited a day to see if anyone else would ask the question that immediately came to my mind (warped as it may be) . . . . but since they didn't, and at the risk of sounding like a smart-aleck, which I don't mean to be . . . . My apologies if I've completely misunderstood the problem or point of your request for help.

You asked "can anyone help?" Help with what, that VLC gives an erroneous time? I think you imply with "it plays fine on windows media player" that WMP DOES give the right time. True?

If so, why the VLC concern?

It's like the old joke . . . . a man visits the doctor, raises his arm and says, "Doc, it hurts when I do this." To which the doctor answers, "Then don't do that."

    So, maybe . . . . "It works with WMP, but not with VLC." "So, don't use VLC . . . ." ?

  9. Try using VLC's Wizard to remux the video.

Thanks for your suggestion however VLC's wizard was amazingly slow so i didn't use it.

so i spent ages looking all over for another MP4 joiner, i couldn't find one but in my quest i found a newer version of YAMB i installed this new version and joint my files together.

VLC gave the correct times Woohoo... BUT it displayed two windows during playback, the extra window was entitled software RGB DirectX output and whenever i try to close this window VLC stops playing the file.
Its not much of a problem as i can minimize it but i was just curious as to why it happens, so if anybody has any suggestions feel free to post.
    Thanks.
