  1. I am ready to scream!! I have tried now 3 times to encode a particular movie with no avail. I am using TMPGEnc to encode have tried twice with SVCD Template NTSC and Once with VCD Template. I have used the bitrate calculator and everything to make sure I am doing it right. I have now burned and converted 2 other movies to SVCD mind you, so I have a handle on how to do it. But for some odd reason this time I have encoded the movie in the mentioned formats and Nero is giving me the following error, I have split the audio and video using Virtual Dub in all instances and has worked fine in the past but now I am getting this message with this particular movie:

"The file 'c:\My Documents\American Pie.mpg' is invalid, need mpeg-1 which was encoded for Video-CD, audio 44.1 Khz; Stereo; 224kBits/s
    Video 352x240/29.97Hz or 352x240/23.976Hz or 352x288/25hz

The Following Problems were found -
    - Stream encoding which is invalid for a Super (Video CD)

You are creating a Video CD V2.0 (CD+i) playercompliant CD but the Mpeg is not suitable for such a disc, How would you like to proceed?"

The problem is I am getting that when I encoded it in MPEG - 1 Layer VCD format, and get something similar when I tried encoding it in SVCD - Mpeg-2 Layer. This is baffeling me since I have done it now with 2 other movies of DVD quality such as this one. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated !! Thanks!!

  2. My advice is that you go ahead and burn it on a CD-RW to see if it plays properly on your DVD player. If it plays right, who cares what Nero has to say?

  3. Well truth be told I tried burning it and ignoring the warning in SVCD Mode on Nero when I encoded it as an SVCD and it came out on the left side of my screen on the DVD player, so something is surely wrong, and it was an AVI i was trying to convert

We all would be able to say what is wrong if we only knew the MPEG properties.
Go to the tool section and download a little tool called MPEG Properties.
Also when you convert avi to MPEG, first load the source, then the template.

Thank you I am doing that now and will post properties when I find them. Appreciate your professional assistance.

  7. Okay one other question, why is it when I am in the Settings Button on TMPGEnc and I am trying to set the Video, Stream Type, Size, Aspect Ratio (Which is set at 4:3), and Frame Rate are all Greyed out, but in the advanced tab, it allows me to change the Source aspect ratio to 16:9 525 Line NTSC which I need, if I were to encode it in 4:3 it would be all distorted, do you think this is what is causing an Invalid Mpeg? I have to reencode it again and will respond with header information when I am done. Thanks again Truman!

A wrong DAR (displayed aspect ratio) is not causing an Invalid Mpeg.
Rather it is framerate, bitrate, audio samplerate, resolution.
VCD specs are fixed and SVCD has some variable specs.
Have a look at the "what is.." section.
If you load a (S)VCD template in TMPG the final MPEG will be [more or less] compliant, at least compliant enough to play it on a DVD player.

  10. Truman, when I am done encoding this again in SVCD format through TMPGEnc I will share the header information with you like you said, again appreciate all your help and patience, as I am trying to learn so I dont have to ask all these dumb questions!

  11. You must have a sony DVD player for it to come up on the left side of the screen. What I must do to fix this error, is load the NTSC or PAL standard VCD template in TMPGEnc. and reencode the video. Then it plays fine and NERO does not give this error.

  12. Actually Nvost I have a Pioneer DV-C503 5 Disc Changer DVD player. And I think its due to the way the movie is being encoded, but I am re-encoding it again to get the Header for Truman so he can further direct me.

  13. Sorry about that. I just assumed it was Sony cuz I've only heard of it happening on Sony.......and it happens on my sony. Still, I have received that SAME message many times with Mpeg's. I just load the basic templates.....reencode........and then burn

  15. This post goes out to all of you that helped me, Truman et. al, thanks again, for some reason I think I was passing up the max bitrate for an SVCD and that is why Nero was not recognizing it. Thanks again for your help and advice.
