I'm playing with an old SGI 540 quad P3 Xeon processor (900/100/2MB) box. Throwing some things at it to see how it holds up against newer systems when I can put all the CPUs to use. It actually does better than expected with Blender renders.
I ripped a DVD with DVD Decrypter and want to convert it to h264 using meGUI. I split the DVD up into 1GB vobs and am now demuxing the audio with D2V Creator. This is progressing REALLY slowly regardless of whether I try one or four jobs at once. I'm seeing about 8% CPU utilization now with four jobs running. Doesn't look to be memory or disk bound either (512MB RAM about 50% free and a 15K SCSI drive on an Ultra2 bus).
Any ideas? As long as I can feed the processors this thing will crank along at 4x 100% all day.
