Today I accidently uploaded an FLV file to YouTube instead of a WMV and I couldnt believe that it actually worked and the video showed perfectly!
was this likely to be a one off FLV upload or have any of you guys also been able to upload FLV files.
and also is it likely that my video will be removed as its a FLV file?

why should they remove it ?
Any file uploaded to Youtube is actually converted to the flv format before it is broadcast. -
I normally convert my vids to FLV with Riva FLV Encoder before uploading to YouTube. It wasn't a one off.
-
Yep, you can upload flv. But I guess, they still convert it in an automatic process - no matter what format it is.
Why donīt you download the YouTube flv and compare it with your original file on your HD ?
I noticed that all of my uploaded flv files are converted by YouTube. But as I upload 640x480, 2 Mbps - it doesnīt really matters. They look nice. -
if the bitrate is under 350 it wont be converted
this has been discussed here for a while
https://forum.videohelp.com/topic336882.htmlI love it when a plan comes together! -
yeah.. if you encode to FLV, (sorensen format) try and keep the bitrate under 350k.
But do not aim for 350k and stop. Try and aim between 346k to 348k but don't go any
higher. The reason is because there are other things going on, on youtube's side though
its mostly on account of the metadata injection which might bloat a few extra bits past
the 350k mark. So its important to leave a little headroom for youtube's metadata injection
and you should be safe with < 350k w/out further bloating.
In using the above notes as a guideline, I was able to upload many videos that are under
the 350k max by a 'k' or too, and no sign of youtube over bloating them
If you use a regular flv encoder, a one pass is ok, but for optimum quality and size, it is
criticle to use a 2-pass encoding routine. SFAIK, mencoder and ffmpeg offer the 2-pass
encoding option. And, couple that with some pre-prep (ad'tnl NR) filters that should help
to bring down the bitrate under 350k (346k-348k) mark. Course, as with any video encoding
project, your mileage may vary.
Good luck,
