Yesterday I got OPPO-980H. Amazing quality and attention to details, even packaging is top notch. Picture and sound are great comparing to LG LDA-831 I used before. The main reason I've replaced LG was to get rid of occasional freezing on some Russian "grey" market DVDs. LG had to be power cycled to get back on track.

The first Russian DVD I played yesterday in oppo was an aftermarket DVD with multiple movies. The movie I watched was good except it froze few times at some point then it continued to play just fine. Most likely it's the DVD defect. However, I thought I'd ask, if there is something I can do to minimize the freezing.

    Thx.

  2. Could be the actual disc is dodgy?,,do a copy using a known good blank, use a lens cleaner on your burners first.

I have been to Ukraine and I have one of these "grey market" DVDs, so I know what you are talking about. I'm sure it's a disc defect and I don't think there is anything you can do.

    Yes quit buying bootleg DVD's.
It's probably poorly authored and burned.
either that or Putin has sabatoged the discs

  5. I'd agree with Movie geek, unless it is a very rare item.

You can extract the material and then re author/encode.

Great! Thank you. The movie isn't something very important, so whenever I have time I might copy it, then burn it on a good blank DVD to proof it's the DVD disk defect.
