Ok, I tried to follow this guide but it makes no sense toward the end. I've got CCE SP 1.00.00.18, and the current versions of AVIsynth, DGmpgdec, and DGPulldown. Here's the problem. First, the guide is supposed to be PAL to NTSC, but when setting up CCE it says to set the framerate to 25fps. That causes CCE to output 720x576. That's not NTSC. Second. Why should I process the video a again with DGPulldown? CCE has an option to do pulldown. I'm just not sure which settings to use. The guide also doesn't say which FPS setting to use in DGPulldown. Is it just me, or is the guide a bit off here?

p.s. What's the benefit of multipass CBR?

  2. Hi-
That causes CCE to output 720x576. That's not NTSC.
Uncheck the "For DVD" box near the top of the main screen. That's what it says in my version of CCE, anyway. He's using an old version of CCE.
Why should I process the video a again with DGPulldown? CCE has an option to do pulldown.
Because CCE will only apply a standard 2:3 (or 3:2) pulldown to get a 23.976fps progressively encoded MPV to output 29.97fps. Yours is a special kind as you'll be creating a 25fps MPV and outputting 29.97fps. If you apply a standard pulldown, you'll get out-of-synch audio.
The guide also doesn't say which FPS setting to use in DGPulldown.
Check the "Custom" box and set it for 25->29.97.
Is it just me, or is the guide a bit off here?
That guide has quite a bit wrong with it. His whole discussion of interlacing is way off. Don't apply a deinterlacer (assuming a progressive film source). And do the resize and any other filtering before the ConvertToYUY2() line.
p.s. What's the benefit of multipass CBR?
I hope you mean Multipass VBR, as there's no benefit to Multipass CBR, as near as I can tell.

I'll try that. And no, I meant multipass CBR. If there's no benefit, why's it there?

  4. I've never used it. I don't know anyone that's ever used it. If you were to check the manual you might see:
It is provided to create the stream for multiangle DVD....In CBR mode, the more passes will result more constant and stabler bit allocation for GOPs, and also the bit allocation for each picture in a GOP will have been modified to achieve the higher quality of image.

Well, I'll be damned. It seems to work now that I changed those settings. Audio seems to be in sync in my preview. I'll burn it in the morning and see how it plays.
