Hi I am a newbie to converting files. I have many avi files that I've been trying to convert to mp4 format to put on my ipod. I've tried mpeg streamclip, super, and 3gp converter. I get errors with all of them.
For example: with streamclip I seem to successfully convert the audio, but there is no video present.
Super and 3gp just give me an error message.
I have followed the tutorials for converting on all of these programs. I only had one successful conversion using Super followed by several errors
Does anyone have any ideas on a simple step that I may be missing?
    Thankyou![/i]

What kind of AVI files? That's just the container name that covers about a hundred formats. It's better to identify video files by the codecs they use, video and audio. Drop a problematic one into Gspot 2.70 and post a screenshot: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic271697.html

    And welcome to our forums.

ps I forgot to mention that this is a screenshot of after I converted this file with streamclip. I get only audio, no video.
    Thanks again!

  5. I think an input file gspot screenshot would be more helpful in determining how to fix the problem.

Regardless, avidemux should be able to do you conversion. It even has an ipod setting preset (auto => ipod)

The bitrate seems very low, but I don't have a ipod. This a a Nero MP4 I have:

But others with some ipod experience may see something there I'm missing.

Try with MeGui ,much better IMO then what you've tried...
But post a Gspot screenshot of avi before conversion. Why would there be any video at 22 kbps....
here's one I did with Megui ,for viewing on my xbox...

btw I HAD xvid installed earlier and I was unable to do the conversion, in this screenshot, I removed xvid, thinking that IT may be the reason I am unable to convert
