All I wanted to do was give my kudos to this machine and to the two people who posted simple instructions to hack into this one and make it region free.

I can't figure out how to post a comment to the listing so I'm trying it here. I originally had a pre-hacked Dae-woo which I dreaded ever having to replace, but it died on me -- not complaining, it gave me great use. But I didn't want to have to try to hack in myself, because even though I've had VCRs since the 2-hour Betamax was introduced and computers and DVD players, and am solidly college-educated with a science degree, I usually find it impossible to follow instructions given on the internet for anything. There is always some step left out that is so obvious to code people, but not to me and things never work without me going through a nightmare of help requests.

Not this time. The instructions were so easy and ACTUALLY WORKED. So thank you, guys. And the Philips gives a great pic and sound, at least enough to make me happy. So far it plays my NTSC region one stuff and PAL region 2 stuff great. I even played a VCD made for me by a friend in the UK, so I'm a happy camper. And I can't believe how good this is for how cheap it was.

Mods, by the way, if this would be better in a different thread or place, feel free to move it. This is my first visit here. Like I said, I just wanted to give kudos to the player and to the people who helped me fix it so it works for me.
