  1. Any idea if that's possible to change the AR without reencoding the whole file?

    AVI doesn't have AR - however some video codecs used in AVI do. Then again, not (far from) all AVI players (hard or soft) use this info. 1:1 PAR is the only safe way to do AVI.

    You can also try experimenting with MPEG4 Modifier - it's supposed to do aspect ratio changes without re-encoding. But, yeah, not everything supports aspect ratio in an AVI properly.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
