Why would a website be giving away another company's software? Is this legit? I think this is probably just their way of getting your e-mail address.

What are the advantages of the payware AVG over AVG free? You'll eventually have to buy a new license to use the software.

Good questions. I thought the Pro version just added anti-spyware, which many people use a separate solution for anyway ? The Free version has always been more than sufficient for me. I do recall one member of a Mail List saying he updated to Pro, and had cause to regret doing so.

  8. The free version doesn't have the email scanner built-in like the Pro version does.

I don't use full suites to scan for spyware/malware. I use spybot and defender for that. i just miss the email scanner that I had with PC-cillin.

I use the free one on two computers, and it scans e-mail in Outlook.

Hmm, just looked at the manual and sure enough, it's included. Funny, I've never noticed it saying it was scanning the mail. I know with PC-cillin, it would change the message subject line to include "SPAM" on any messages that it thought to be spam. Guess that's the part I miss most.

    I don't think techbargains.com will post a link/deal for a bogus site

  12. I see there is really no functionality differences between the Free and Pro versions.

Just Tech support, high speed download, and corp use

    http://www4.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/crp/2

I was thinking the Pro version has the anti-spam, but it doesn't

Good news: The link worked for me just now!

Bad news: WTF? Download speed is dreadfully slow like i'm back on dial-up. Its going at about 6kbs a second, and the file is 37MBs!

So i guess i'll get back to you guys in a few days when it finally finishes

Edit: Ok it sped up a bit later and just finished. 37MB. Installed it and it appears to be the "Full" version, I don't know how different it is from the free one though.

  14. Just curious, will this have to be re-liscensed in a year? If so, then I'll probably stick with the free one.

Now i'm not sure, when it was first installing i saw something that i think said it expires in 12/08/08. However, now that its installed i can't find anything to indicate if it'll expire or not.

I've never paid for AVG before so i have no idea how they operate on that.
