Looking for a program that will transcode my .avi files onto a DVD, however it must have the following support
-allow me to add subtitles in the form of .srt
-allow me to 'compress' the video (to Long Play, Super Long Play) etc if the video is (for example) 3hours long
-allow me make a sub menu where I can select chapters (or have this as main menu)

I tried DVDflick but they don't have a menu so you can't choose your chapters.

I tried Avi2DVD but they always ask me for an audio source when I only have the .avi and .srt

I tried neroVision but they do not have support for .srt (they have the compression I'm talking about btw)

I tried Convertxtodvd, but it seems like you can't do a scene selection. (like DVDflick except I have a menu without a chapter selection sub menu)

So any good ones out there?

Try tmpengc dvd author 3 - that now includes avi conversion and has very good menu support. HOWEVER I can't gurantee it has subtitle support - I know tda 1 and 2 lacked that feature - or I never knew how to use it if it was buried in a submenu.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Okay I just tried tmpengc dvd author 3 with divX authoring but when I go to add my .avi files it gives me an error message saying only the audio can get added and not the video.

Do I need divX codec installed for this to work?

    Any other programs out there?

FAVC seems to support SRT files, though I've never used one so can't say for sure. It uses either QuEnc or HCEnc so you should be able to set any bitrate you want. IDK about the menus either. I know it makes a menu of the titles.

GUIforDvdauthor does not recognize any of my .avi files

only displays the .mpg and .mp4 (maybe .wmv but I dont have that format)

  9. Well you do need the proper codec installed.

Use Gspot to see what codec you need. VLC will play them on the computer since it uses its own codecs for example however you need tyeh codec installed to convert.

    Good luck

Avi2Dvd is picky with names/paths. The easiest way is to put your AVI in your C: drive and give it a one word name (C:\MyMovie.avi).

With Convertxtodvd make sure you have the viewer enabled, you can use the slider to find the portion of the video you want and set chapter stops.

Okay I'll try again with Avi2Dvd

but with ConvertxtoDVD I mean, when everything is already done, I want a chapter submenu where I can go and select a certain chapter instead of scrolling all the way through

avi2dvd now works when i did what you told me too, and I am able to create shortcuts to all the chapters!

Hopefully I can make a template cause making the shortcuts took some time. I'm transcoding right now ill let you know the final product

Seems the new ConvertX will be addressing many menu needs.
