Hi guys I bought a Lite On LVC 9016G back in April 06 and it worked pretty well but it slowly died because of the large amount of transferring I did with wrestling VHS tapes to DVD. It can't record anything anymore and the CD tray has trouble opening and closing so it basically died in November.
Then a few weeks ago I bought a Sony RDR-VX555 recorder and player with VCR all built in. It is good but for the first time today I tried playing one of the discs I got from the UK (from landy) and it is not compatible, probably because it is in PAL Format. This blows. I bought this machine at Best Buy and want to go back in a week to return it. Lite On was a great machine and read both formats. So my general question is what DVD Recorders/VCRs all in one sold at Best Buy would you guys recommend and one that play dvds that are pal and ntsc format. I want to exchange it the week after Christmas when things settle down so please let me know guys.
Or if there is a code to change the region so I can watch the UK DVDs please notifty me. any help is appreciated. Email me wrestlevessel@aol.com or post here.
Thankyou.

"Dying in November" peaked my interest. Before you write off your trusty old Lite-on, see if you've got the "DST Bug" (officially called the "Y2K7 Problem").
See if your clock is set for Daylight Saving Time (DST) ON. If so, set your clock manually and turn DST off.
If you can do a reset before changing clock settings, might be a good idea. If not, just do the clock changes.
Pretty simple to do and just might help... money-back guarantee! -
No it basically died gradually. First it had trouble reading blank discs once in a while. Then half of my memorex discs didn't work by August. Then I switched over to Sony and it kept saying failed for them too. Now the CD tray has trouble opening and closing, and it can't read blank discs for memorex or sony the 2 brands i bought. I did the firmware update a lot, and sometimes it helped, but at this point the machine is real beat up. Alls it is good for is VHS and to play finalized DVDs but takes a good 10-15 mins to get cd tray to open.
I bought this new sony dvd recorder and want a code to get it to play the UK discs, or tell me a recorder that best buy may sell that I could use to play them.
Please help guys.
