Hi everyone:![]()
Has anyone heard of this stand-alone DVD player TRENT 9380.
I saw it at a local Fry's, priced at $49.99. It has HDMI, up-conversion 720 - 1080, both coaxial & fiber optic audio outs, S-video and component video outs, and the usual RCA type connections for both audio and video.
The player plays DVD, DivX, SVCD, VCD, MP3, WMA and many other formats.
At this price, I don't expect it to last more than 2 years; but $25/year is a good investment for me so long as during these 2 years, I get good pictures and sound (and especially, no freezing at layer break point on a double-layer disc).
I searched for more info on this player and nothing came up with the name TRENT 9380. Only the name of Astar HDX 9380 appeared. Is TRENT just another name for ASTAR?
Thanks & Happy Holidays![]()

Buy the refurb Philips DVP5982B priced at $39.99. It has HDMI, up-conversion 720 - 1080P, both coaxial & fiber optic audio outs, S-video and component video outs, and the usual RCA type connections for both audio and video.
The player plays DVD, DivX, SVCD, VCD, MP3, WMA and many other formats AND has a USB connection in front to play your divx files right from your flash drive.

Wow! $40.00 and free shipping + no tax. What a good deal! I'll have to look into this. Thanks jaxxboss.

I had a chance to examine the machine (Philips DVP5982B) today at a local Fry's. There is no S-video out. Only a composite (RCA type), component (RGB) and HDMI for video outs.
I've read several complaints about the unit's (DVP5982B) flimsy disc tray. This is definitely a drawback for me. I own a Philips DVP642. After 2 years, it is having problems with the disc tray now. The tray would slide out then automatically slide back inside on its own, without me touching anything. It makes loading and removing disc very difficult.
So, it seems to me Philips disc tray is not something reliable. -
The tray being flimsy has nothing to do with your problem. If it is closing automatically, the tray sensor is likely dirty or failing. I had a Sony player with the same issue, after being repaired 3 times I gave it away.
