  1. Hello. I cannot get any VCDs to work in the Xbox, regardless of the media (xbox.aimx.net).
I was wondering if there is a way to convert these .pgs and .dat files, or any type of file I could add on the cd and the player will be fooled into thinking it is a dvd.
I am unsure how dvds work, is it just a boot sector? Or is the entire file encoded differently?
    Thanks.

  3. I don't own an XBox but from what I've read it does not support VCD or SVCD at all, even with the DVD kit. I do not think it has player software support for the VCD/SVCD formats. If true, it is surprising because the XBox DVD player software was licensed from Ravisent Cinemaster, which does support VCD in their PC DVD player software as far as I know.

However I read a few unverified reports that XBox does support MiniDVD or "cDVD", which is just a DVD image burned to CD-R/RW media. You might try authoring a MiniDVD at 352x480 and 2500 bitrate. Let us know if it works.

The XBox is very picky about the CD media from what I've read, and very few CD-R media are supported. You should try CD-RW media instead, often it works in DVD players that don't support CD-R.

xbox.aimx.net has a list of compatible media.
I do own the DVD playback kit, but I have tried several different mpg and vcd files with no success, but i'll try that trick you posted.
