What is a good program to use to join 2 avi files where there will not be any loss in the quality in the video?

Ok so that is doing it the same way as I was doing it with virtualdubmod. Is it better to use virutaldub instead of Virtualdubmod?

If your objective is to find a "good program to use to join 2 avi files where there will not be any loss in the quality in the video", depending on the contents of your avi container, you may find them equally capable.

VirtualdubMod has not had an update in two years and the creator has given up on it. Virtualdub gets updates constantly with 1.7.7 being the latest stable release. I use the experimental version, 1.7.X since it is able to accept different types of audio files (like VirtualdubMod does) and uses input filters that were designed for this version. The most recent version is 1.7.X_Test6.

For joining files though, my program of choice is Avidemux since it doesn't baulk at files like Virtualdub does.
