  1. Hi all. I hope this is not something which was already discussed, but if it was I could not find it.
I live in USA, and my mother brought me some DVD from Italy for my 2 year old to watch. Of course problem is region and system. I tried to make it into NRG and then burn it with Nero, but it won't let me choose any way to convert it.
Does anyone know if there is a way to convert the nrg file to NTSC and change region?

There is no way to convert an NRG file, which is an image file. If you do a search of the guides here, there are many guides on converting PAL DVDs to NTSC. You do need to understand that converting the menus is VERY difficult. Your profile says that you have posted 9 times in over 4 years of being a member. What that says to me is that you probably only post when you have a question and you never read the forums otherwise. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean that I think it's safe to assume that you are a newbie. As such, you are going to find converting the menus to be VERY VERY difficult. I'd advise just converting the videos and not having menus on them just to make it easier on you.

If you have more than 2 DVDs or you think you may want to watch PAL DVDs in the future, the easiest thing to do is just to buy a DVD player that can convert PAL to NTSC and can be put into multi-region mode easily. Philips makes a variety of cheap players that can convert PAL to NTSC and can be put into multi-region mode. That way you don't have to convert anything. Do your research, look up a model that you want BEFORE you buy it and check here in the DVD Players list to be sure that it can convert PAL to NTSC and can be put into multi-region mode easily. In fact, for all we know your existing DVD player might even be able to put into multi-region mode and then you just have to do that and don't have to convert anything. Be sure that the video output of your DVD player is set to NTSC and NOT set to "Multi" or "Any" or anything other than NTSC once you put the player in multi-region mode.

I'm not sure how you even got an NRG file to begin with as Nero doesn't do any decryption, so whatever you got would be useless to you (when you burn it, it won't play because it wasn't decrypted) and NRG files can't be changed anyway as they are image files. Be sure you read up too on how to do ripping and decryption because if you want to go down the path of converting the DVDs from PAL to NTSC, you first have to rip them to your computer in decrypted format before you can convert them.

  3. Thank you alot. Yes I haven't posted in 4 years because I haven't made any DVD since then. I tend to buy original DVDs' and not make copies or download them. The most I do is download a movie if I am not sure I might like it and then buy the original.
Maybe 4 years where too long and I was a little bit rusty hee hee. Anyway I guess I I have figured out a way to solve my problem, even tho it might take a long time (trying now with the shortest video, which still require long time).
What I am doing is as follow...if it works can be usefull for others.
    Steps:

1_ Extract files from NRG or also ISO with Magic ISO.
2_ Using Nero reconvert the VOB files into NTSC.
3_ Using DVD-Lab Pro remake the the Authoring since DVD-Lab Pro does not create a Region.

Since I am a little rusty I don't remember how to get the parts of the menus, but hopefully I will manage to do it. Even if not, my little daughter won't mind if the menu is a little different.

    1_ Fine!
2_ Nero? There are surely better options here. Have you read some of the guides found by the link I provided above?
3_ Well, even if I like DVD-Lab too, no authoring app sets any region code, at least not by default.

I used ConvertXtoDVD in converting a PAL 25 fps movie into a NTSC with no problems. Try it-they have a free demo that you can use to test it for your application. However, the video is water marked until you buy it.

charyuop - I'm glad you found something that worked for you, BUT the PAL to NTSC conversion may be 100% unnecessary if your DVD player can convert PAL video to NTSC and you don't seem to have even checked this. It could not be more simple to just check the video output on your DVD player setup menu and set it to NTSC if it's set to "Multi" or "Any". Yes, you will still need to rip to get rid of region coding, but you may not have to convert anything if your player can convert PAL to NTSC for you.
