  1. How do I setup my Hauppauge to record what's in the composite input? I can't figure out if the progrma it comes with even has that option.

First I will assume your version of WinTv2K is very much like what came with my PVR 250.

If you just want to record manually, click on the green button in between the channel up and down buttons to switch to the composite source......you will see the picture in the preview screen.

Next, press the Red, rectangular record button.......a small window will drop from the bottom....hit the Red Dot on lower left and the recording will start shortly. Hit the stop button to stop it.

Best to set the recording quality first. Hit the PREF BUTTON, then the Movie Tab, then select the Quality Level. By default the quality level is DVD Extral Long Play, which is rather poor. Use DVD Standard Play (90 minutes) or DVD Long Play (about 2 Hours).

To do a scheduled recording, you need to "Add" a Channel for your composite input. You get there via Menu>Suite Manager. It will select 200 by default....name it VCR or whatever you like.

  3. Yea the only thing is... It doesn't switch to my composite input... Do I need anything else tweaked/plugged in first?z

(I assume my layout is the same as it's the same program)

Oh ha... The green button just sets audio... No image appears until you hit record. That's what I never did heh. I thought it'd appear before. Thanks.

I take it you can't set to record widescreen though can you?

RoganSarine - Letting us know what Hauppauge card you have would have been nice as we don't read minds.

Do note that composite video is inferior to S-video and you would be better off to use S-video input if you possibly can.

Since I have no idea what Hauppauge card you have, all I can say is that the cards that record standard definition video only record 4:3 video. There is no option to record in widescreen per se. They will record a letterboxed signal if they get it, but in 4:3.

  5. All hauppauge cards use the same software more or less... It's the PVR-150.

I know s-video is better than composite, I just don't have the cable yet and there's really no point until I can split the connection to my TV and my PC alike. Still contemplating whether I wanna go with the Hava so I can play in HD, or suffice myself with a splitter until then.
