  1. Hi There, I just want to know a tool and any guides to making a 'sample' of a completed .avi file, and the sample output will be an avi with same specs as source (except the length of course) and about 1min long...

  2. Hehe, still trying to fulfill the "scene" requirements, I see. You'll want the sample from the AVI you made. You don't reencode a new one. So, you cut a one-minute piece of the encode you made. Open the AVI in VDubMod, answering "no" to the question about VBR audio. Set Video to Direct Stream Copy (up at the top, Video->Direct Stream Copy). Scroll to the beginning of the piece you want (hold down the Shift key for easier scrolling). Down at the bottom of VDubMod are a bunch of little buttons. To the right are 2 looking like little half-arrows. Hit the left-pointing one to mark the beginning. Scroll to the end of the section you want. Hit the right-pointing arrow. Now the section you want will be highlighted as a dark blue color. Go File->Save As, give it a name and that's it.

i use avi split which is a very cool tool and imo easier than V Dub for simply slicing out a bit of an avi file.

AviSplit (AVI/DivX video joiner, splitter and cutter)

  4. thanks again manono, you obviously have been in my shoes once upon a time i see well you know all the tricks and tips atleast. Yea, I was wondering about that thing abou VBR when fiddeling with VDubMod but other movies I have put into VDubMod have said the same thing, so i guess it just tries to make VBR -> CBR.

  5. hey manono, thanks for the info, and looking at the tutorials, ad downloaded the tool to cut the VOB and upload it for you to check out (thx heaps btw).
Hey, isnt progresive video better than interlaced video for the output, and would it be better to deinterlace a video if the source is interlaced... for my purposes? I am forcing Normal ITVC for hybrid in autoGK , but I am not sure if this is needed or not, do you have much experience in my kind of ripping, and what is involved, meaning what is the appropraite and best ways of doing it?

I just read something that said interlaced video is not good and should make it progressive, which is what i thought was the best way, what do you think on this situation?

will let you know when I have uploaded the sample vob for you to look at, jut working out the package you said to download, and reading the documents and how-tos to figure the best way to do this atm...

Thanks again for your help, I am getting there, and finally have a progressive output (as it was a progresssive source), with VBR / 128kbs and at 640 width, and came out at over 75% at 700mb, so lets see how this one comes back... after reading alot on this encoding method, and with your help, I hope this one passes.

And will get back to you soon with this interlaced question, and the blended frames dilema I faced with Lost and found, which i am still holding back on encoding until I find out how to remove the blended frames, so it is 'correctly done' - 3rd time lucky

Thanking you alot for all your help, and thanks to the Mod for explaining the rules

  6. Hey, isnt progresive video better than interlaced video for the output,
For XviD AVIs you pretty much have to make it progressive. When I said not to deinterlace movies, I meant not to deinterlace them using a deinterlacer. You unblend them if blended, realign the fields if phase-shifted, IVTC if telecined NTSC. One of the effects will be that the interlacing will go away, but the filters used aren't pure deinterlacers. Movies by definition are not interlaced.

Isn't this a PAL DVD? You don't IVTC a PAL DVD.
do you have much experience in my kind of ripping
    More than you'll ever know.
meaning what is the appropraite and best ways of doing it?
I can't guess what has to be done. Where's the sample?
