The picture on my screen works and everything where it says the name brand of the dvd player"Nova" but it just won't start playing a dvd at all..Any help would be great cause i just don't want to go out and buy another dvd player if i can still fix this one. Thanks

I assume it does this with commercial discs beside burned discs? If it has the capability of playing CDs, like a VCD, try that. If it plays, you may have a failed DVD read laser.

Or it may have dirt on the lens. Try a lens cleaner. Other than that, the mechanism may be sticking. Most times, if it's something mechanical, it's not worth fixing. But if all else fails, try to get to the laser mechanism and see if it's free and clean.

It could also be a internal electrical problem, which definitely isn't worth fixing. This is what the mechanism looks like. This is from a CD player, but DVD players are very similar.

    And welcome to our forums.
