    Hi

Has anyone tried the Nexxtech DVD+R DL disc? I think Circuit City is the only people selling it.
They seem to have it on sale all the time.
    It 8x.
I have read, here, about the Nexxtech DVD+R being o.k.

    Thanks

For DL discs, the only one at present that has dependable results is the Verbatim DL + discs.

People who are serious about using DL media buy Verbatim DVD+R DL and ONLY that. People who like to gamble that they can save a few pennies per disc on another brand and it will be "just as good as Verbatim" come here later and post and cry about how they bought a 25 pack of brand ______ DL discs and almost none of them will burn correctly or they won't play back correctly.

Personally, I wouldn't use any DL media but Verbatim DVD+R DL even if you gave them to me for free.

I personally swear by the Sony dvd+r dl discs. I have never had a coaster using them. I can't say the same for the Verbatim discs however.

There's always one. Stick with Verbatim DL and you will have a happy life. I know there are some that are so "skillful" that they can can smear butt butter on a clear disc and record with no errors but they are in the "disc-stink" minority.

  6. Don't even bother, I bought a 5 pk box of Nexxtech DVD+R DL at Circuit City (I know, my mistake) and 4 out of 5 were coasters, the media had fingerprints even though the cases were sealed with plastic. Worst media I've ever got.

They wouldn't by chance be Made in Singapore would they? Sony brands MKM (Verbatim) media. See link here:

Stick to MKM 001 or MKM 003 - anything besides those are at best a roll of the dice.

I bought a 15-pack DVD+R DL Nexxtech a few days ago. Had two coasters when burning on the NEC drive. When I used it on the Lite-On burner, every single burn was perfectly fine. So in my case, it depended on the burner. Not sure why this happened. Most likely cheap blank media brand since the NEC burner rarely failed on any occasion on many different blank media brands.

In my opinion, it really sums up the compatibility between your burner and the type of blank media brand you're using. Some burners are picky and I suppose you can say vice-versa for blank discs.

If you test the discs, I bet you'll find more errors. Don't assume "the burn was fine" just because the disc did not kick out during the burning process.

I bought a 15-pack of nexxtech DL DVD+R media at Circuit city as well. The media is not so good. Two of the discs had some damage -- like for one there were small air bubbles between the 2 layers of the disc in the clear plastic region in the center of the disc; and another had a chip in one of the layers in the same clear plastic region.

My first burn was good, the next 5 were bad, and the next 2 after that were good. The thing is I burned these with my T61 laptop which has a GSA-U10N burner, and I had good burns whenever I burned with the laptop sitting on a flat surface completely left alone (i.e. not having it in my lap on the couch trying to keep it still as I type) -- so maybe this is my problem, but that still doesn't change the physical deformities with the discs mentioned above. By good burns I mean the backed up game disc worked in my xbox360, whereas the bad burn either (a) did not burn at all or (b) burned but did not play in the xbox360 (this could be an issue with the game image I burned).

ImgBurn identifies these as RICOHJPN discs and capable of 2.4x and 4x write speeds -- though on the disc it clearly says it supports 8x... guess that was a lie. I've burned using the 2-2.4x on CloneCD.

I paid about $15 for the discs... so the $:disc ratio is about 1:1; cheaper than verbatim media which I believe is what's recommended for backing up xbox360 games, but again the quality sucks. If I had to do it again I'd just wait a few days for some verbatim DL media to get shipped from newegg.

    Hope this helps someone...

These discs are absolute crap. I bought a 25-pack of dual layer dvd-r's from Circuit City, tried burning anc after 2 coasters started googling my nero errors and taking steps to fix them - defrag, clear cache, turn off running programs, restart, update firmware, don't use nero, download imgburn instead, etcetera... lots of suggestions, no solutions. So I dug out my old external burner and made a couple more coasters - all said, 3 successful burns, 9 coasters. Finally I tried burning some stuff onto my single layer Kodak dvd's and they all worked fine. Then I checked my last batch of dual-layer dvd's which worked fine to see what brand they were, discovered they were Verbatim. So the only conclusion I can make is that the reason I'm having so many problems is because Nexxtech is crap. I didn't save my receipt so I'm out 25 bucks or whatever it was. Avoid them like the plague.
