I'm looking to edit some old VHS tapes that I made when I was a kid.
How the hell do I get them into FCP?

OK I know, read would ya?
So I did some research and found that all I have to do is...

    1. Convert the VHS to DVD via my Sony video converter
(that I picked up at Best Buy new for only $150)
    2. Purchase and download DVDxDV
    3. Insert DVD and extract whatever clips I want or the entire DVD into .Mov
    4. Edit away.

If you use something like DVD FAB, or DVD Back Up as well
you can even edit clips from any DVD, including Major studio releases.
(I wouldnt unless you like lawsuites).

Man, Terryj will be so proud of me.

    LOL!!
Xmas came early for me this year.....

JAMES, any further questions don't hesitate to post.

Also, don't kick yourself, but if your camcorder
has analog I/O, you could have ran your vcr into
camcorder, played the VHS tape, set the Camcorder
to passthrough, and imported the VHS directly into
    FCP as a DV Stream.

I'm new to this stuff, yet I've always wanted to be in this field. What you get
is someone who wants to learn everything in one month. Now I know it's almost
impossible, but I'm doing my best to get it done.

Thanks for your help, and for your patience with me.

Get a tv card w/ composite inputs and audio inputs (if none there, use the line in input), plug the VCR in using the correct av cables. Open up your tuner software. Check that everything is working, then press record on your tv card software and then press play on the vcr. It works for me!
