This week I played a DVD in my player for the first time and to me suprise at times the movie isnt smooth but jerks and movements are choppy.

I tried with a original Star wars EP II and with some DTS demos I have.

The funny thing is that the demo sometimes jerks and sometimes it doesnt ...

When I played star wars also sometimes the sound was out of synch with the picture ...

I will go back to best buy today and exchange it for another unit ... I am hopring this is just a defective player and not normal for that model as I really like the player.

Does anybody else have these problems? Again this is with DVD's NOT with Divx USB stuff...

Alternatively I am thinking of getting an Oppo player

    cheers

    Matt

Well, it could be a media issue. Knowing what type and brand of disc your DVD is on would be good to know. For example, if you are using DL media, you should know that using anything but Verbatim DVD+R DL is just asking for problems. We gets posts here all the time from people who use other brands of DL media and they don't work very well at all.

The player could be defective. It happens. Philips' quality control on some models, such as the infamous DVP-642, has been truly horrible in the past.

We don't know anything about how the DVD was made, nor if it was made correctly, and errors in the process could be causing your player to have problems. I doubt this is it, but it's theoretically possible. If this was a Divx/Xvid conversion, that would be important for us to know.

The star wars DVD is store bought original ... and jerks - that is the concern to me it also had the audio out of sync, which didnt happen on my old player

the DTS test DVD is on a DVD-R.

I will exchange the thing today .. if it doesnt get better I will grab an oppo with USB, they seem to be quiet good

    cheers
