This could be a uber newbie question but in a nutshell I'm trying to get an upconverting DVD recorder HDMI output connected to my Epson S3 VGA port.

I'm thinking this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&p_id=...seq=1&format=2 HDMI female to DVI-D single link female adapter connected to this: http://www.etech4sale.com/images/113837_l/Etech4sale/DVItoVGA.jpg DVI to VGA adapter that I have lying around here which then I would connect a normal VGA cable to that and to my projector should do things fine (unless cables won't do that and I'll actually need some sort of adapter box).

If anybody knows of any all in one cables that'd actually do that I'd def be interested esp since I'd like to save that DVI to VGA adapter for my PC stuff. I'm hoping that this'll also upconvert my analog cable TV from the DVD-R however I'm not betting on that and only expecting that it'll upconvert DVD playback.

Hope this post makes sense. I kinda feel like Dr. Frankenstein after graduating from a Caribbean medical school

I've been told by someone else that this won't work however he never followed up and I can't understand why it wouldn't work since I've used a DVI video card with a monitor that only had a 15 pin input and all worked fine...and since DVI and HDMI are basically the same thing and my projector will output a computer image from that 15 pin I can't understand why it wouldn't work.

    Thanks for any advice

Which of these DVI pinouts do you see on your DVD player connector?

My guess would be the middle one DVI-D. If so you can't get to VGA. If you have DVI-I (like a typical computer display card) then you have pins for DVI-D and VGA. I've never seen a DVD player with VGA out the DVI connector but yours might be special.

Even so you are unlikely to get any upscale on VGA or analog components.

OPPS: I thought you said a DVI output. HDMI never has VGA pins, so no it won't connect.

I might not be explaining myself right (Hell...considering what I know about this stuff I'm almost sure of it lol).

I do understand it won't connect because it doesn't have the pins however what I am wondering if the signal would properly transfer from a HDMI output from a DVD recorder to the VGA input of a projector if I buy the proper adapter cables to go from HDMI to DVI to VGA.
