Video Type Doesn't Match prob when compiling DVD Lab Pro project

Dear Anyone.

Brief specs: AMD Athlon running at 2.8ghz, 1gig RAM, 250gig hard drive spare.

Trying to use DVD Lab Pro to put a menu on the front end of a home video., so you can click to see different chapters, scenes, etc The video's in VOB format - it's basically one big vob. About 150meg.

DVDV Lab Pro accepts the video. I make the menu. Do a dummy compile, WITHOUT the video, everything's fine. Then I do a compile using the real video and get Video Type Doesn't Match, every time. Yes, I've tried using different videos. The main prob. is the phrase 'Video Type Does Not Match'. It's a VOB, at least it calls itself that. As do my other vids. Nero, everything picks up on them as VOBs. And VOBs are the only file-types DVD Lab Pro will accept, as far as I can tell. So what isn't matching what, and how do I make everything match so it will compile my project?

Yes, I know it says Video Type does not match Frame Size, but I've gone into Project Properties and mix'n'matched the options, no joy with any combination I can think of! And I don't understand what most of the rest of the stuff there does because I've only had the software 4 days and this is my first attempt at using it! (It's legally bought-and-paid-for software, no worries there, folks.)

This might be a clue for anyone who knows more than I do (which includes most of the world's population right now!) If I try to demultiplex anything, it says it can't open the file. Yet the file's THERE - it shows up fine in Preview! So I don't understand what it's trying to tell me, or if there's any relevance.

Perhaps not related to this actual problem, but VOBs aren't what's meant to be used as source mtrl for DVD authoring. MPG (or in DVD-Lab's case m2v + AC3/MP2/WAV (elementary video + audio streams)) is best.

Thanks - so I'll try converting my VOBs into MP2s and using those - I wish I wasn't so NEW to all of this - it's like groping around a dark chamber where all the other inhabitants can see by infra-red!

If that turns out to be the case, what's damn annoying is that it was swallowing the VOB files in the first instance, they were showing up on the Preview slider, the one you slide to go through the movie.

Is it OK to tell you if that idea works and, if not, for you (or someone else) to give me another idea to try?

Yes, DVD-Lab do accept VOBs. However, elementary streams are what works best with DVD-Lab (as for most authoring apps). At least let DVD-Lab demux the a/v as it asks your permission to do so, when you feed it multiplexed sources (like VOB and mpg)

150MB is actually a very small VOB, and would only contain around 10 minutes or so of video.

Make sure your project is set to NTSC, as that is your frame size.

However from what you have presented here, I would suggest the VOB is actually corrupt or incomplete. That it loads and plays at all is surprising.

Post a g-spot screenshot of the vob, and try using PGCDemux or Rejig to demux the VOB back to elementary streams and load those. Streams are DLP's preferred source format.

Yeah, it's only tiny - I wanted something to practice on without having to wait for ages for compilation etc, so I just borrowed my sister's video camera and took 10 minutes or so of whatever was going on in the Town Centre here one evening!

I hope this helps. I'm now about to try demuxing - shouldn't that be deMIXing? Surely if you've added the sound to the video, you've MIXED the two together? Anyway. I'm going to demix or demux my short video and see what happens.
