Okay, I have authored HD DVD's already using my Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder, and some software that sony gave me. They turn out very nice. The files I work with are m2ts files.

However, i have a bunch of mkv files that I would like to author to an HD DVD that I can play on my standalone Toshiba HD-XA1 player. I have tried some of my programs I already purchased like Pinnacle Studio and DVD Movie factory, but none of these programs will recognize the mkv file.

So, I went and downloaded something from River Past called Video Cleaner Pro which converts MKV to AVI. I did that, however the AVI is a tad grainy around the edges, and not as nice and crisp as the High Definition mkv file.

So, to make a long story short, is there any all in one authoring program I can use which will take my mkv files and author to an HD DVD that I can play, or is there a good piece of software I can use to convert the mkv file to an AVI or MPEG-4?? where I am not going to lose any video quality.

    Thanks for any help.

Nope, no all-in-one HD-DVD converter supports MKVs. I would get a HTPC or media center with HD mkv support...

But if you really want to convert mkv to hD-DVD I would try avisynth with directshowreader and see if some hd-dvd converters can open it and convert. Some mkvs with h264 might not need any converting but I don't know if you will find any hd-dvd authoring tool that support it.

I tried that River Past again, using the Divx codec and it came out pretty good. I am amazed there is nothing that I can easily use.
