  1. If I have a homemade DVD with 10 TV shows, what software can I use to rip those 10 shows to 10 MPG files such that each show is its own MPG file? I know that I can rip and get VOBs and then convert them, but I assume that there is a program that will rip straight to MPG. The key is that no transcoding should be done.

I have DVDFab Platinum, VideoReDo (and their TVSuite), and DVDDecrypter. Thanks.

It depends on how well the disc was authored.

If each episode is a different title then VOB2MPG will give you a separate mpg file for each episode. If they are one large file then you will have to use something like VideoRedo or Womble to cut them up and output the files without re-encoding.

  3. Don't I have to rip to DVD before I run VOB2MPG? Each show is a different title.

TMPGEnc MPEG Editor will directly rip an unprotected (like home made) DVD to MPEG2 files.

If the disc is unprotected then you can use VOB2MPG to rip the mpgs directly from the DVD to your HDD. If it is a commercial disc then you need to rip it first, then use VOB2MPG.
