Hi there, the time to reckon w/ digitizing my old vhs tapes has come.I'm interested in a combo unit w/ dvd-recorder/vhs capability.I just need a decent unit that will do a good(not best) job at converting the vhs tapes to dvd.Of course the cheaper, the better! Thanks for any tips or advice!

    Checkout the Panasonic DMR-EZ47.

There are cheaper ones advertised for the purpose you want but remember you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the reply, would the Panasonic EZ-37S be just as good? It's $60 less than the 47 model and I only intend to convert about 40 or so VHS tapes than I'll be finished w/ the unit and sell it.

If these are commercial tapes then a combo won't work. You have to be able to put a TBC or signal cleaner between the VHS output and the DVD recorder.

Of course, if these are home movies it's not an issue.

Panasonic is not a good choice for VHS conversion, no. It makes the video more noisy, not less.
