    You can't have the same quality unless you rip the DVD without compression to another DVD.
    Any attempt at making it smaller will result in more or less degradation of quality.
    You can get OK quality by ripping it to XviD, 2x700 MB

    I already told you - A 1:1 copy of your original DVD. That's the only way to get the same q as the original.

  7. Right then, how to get at least Good Quality Video instead of OK by using DivX/XviD

    DivX/XviD from DVD will never be better than OK. Keep the bitrate at or above 1.000 kbps for your average 640 pixel wide AVI, 1.500 for 720 wide, do a 2 pass encode. Use avi.net or AutoGK until you're confident you can configure the codec better than these apps can.

    When the "releaser" happens to be very stupid/scoundrelly,
    even 6 CDs are not sufficient to reach "OK quality".

    Just two things:

    1) I was not referring to the OP;

    2) When a wannabe-releaser insists on using full-quality 6-channel ac3
    for the audio track, the remaining "bitrate room" may be insufficient for
    achieving decent video quality even when using multi-pass compression.
