Can you let me know what I need to do to get past this and be able to use the ffmpegX software?

Just fyi, ffmpegx takes a rationally conservative approach to interpreting the DMCA. By prohibiting direct DVD input, ffmpegx evades accusations that its primary purpose is to copy DVDs. This prohibition is an inconvenience, of course, but it keeps Major well out of jail.
There are tools by authors who have chosen to take a riskier approach, but on the mac, there aren't any with the range of functionality offered by ffmpegx. For example, if you only need to convert into Divx/XviD, D-Vision3 will allow direct DVD input. It contains an internal ripping engine, although it isn't as capable as the newest dedicated ripping tools. But for your case, where the DVD itself has no CSS, it will work directly from your DVD, without the additional time/space consumed by copying to the HD first.
