  1. I have a sony hdr-hc1 1080i cam, i took the video from it in .m2t and then used mpeg video wizzard to convert it to a format that Ulead video stuido (program stream or something i cant recall) can edit and then i outputed them in the same format.

Well what should convert the video to? I love the quality but 42min of video is 7.7GB.

Are you trying to make a DVD? If so you are limited to 720x480i wide at bitrates described here https://www.videohelp.com/dvd

Keep the 1080i on the tapes for the future.

Actually you can do a Blu-Ray disk encoded 1080i if you buy Vegas Pro 8 + Blu-Ray Writer plus Blu-Ray player for about ~$1200 investment plus $25 per Blu-Ray DVD blank.

  3. I want to keep it 1080i and burn it to blu-ray or hd-dvd later on when prices come down.

For now they are stored on my PC.

Now, you know why many are staying with SDVD. All this does is make more work and you don't have all the tools yet. These companies push and push towards their owns ends, which are not necessarily yours.
