  1. I have been back and forth with trying to get HD Dvds working with Media Player classic without success, but I have got every other source working in it and outputting the correct audio (DTS or AC3) in most cases just fine.

So I am back on a mission to get Power DVD to output a DTS or AC3 etc... through the spdif connection (as a passthrough) when I am playing an HD-DVD when sending it to my receiver.

    My setups

I have a laptop with HDMI out that sends the audio and video obviously as uses the Realtek HD Audio codec. I have success playing such things as MKVs or SD-DVDs with WMP 11 or media player classic and enjoy the full multi-channel audio source to its potential. I am using Ac3filter to get this to work with these programs, but have used guides like http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11341294&postcount=1 to try and get MPC to play HD-DVDs but couldn't get it working although I don't have sonic

I also have a desktop with the Analog 1988b codec with SPDIF out and have the same results as above.

I read in the powerdvd ultra manual about checking a box to use the SPDIF, well for the life of me I cannot find this option in the configuration. Does anyone know the registry key for this option, I searched for it and everything that mention SPDIF was set to 1 or true.

I am using PowerDVD ultra 3104

Maybe someone could monitor the registry while they turn the SPDIF option on and off and see what it changes.

    Thank you for your help,

To set output to SPDIF in PowerDVD go to configuration -> audio -> speaker environment -> use spdif

Are you referring to the drop down list that lists 2, 4, 6 speakers etc...? There is no spdif option in that list for me for some reason on either of my machines. The desktop has optical and coaxial SPDIF and the laptop has optical and out through HDMI. It is weird that it doesn't show.

Have you tried PowerDVD support? http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/product_faq_home.jsp

Options such as these often very between releases. You are also a few version releases behind. Also, quite often packaged version (motherboards, soundcards, etc.) are often crippled and not full versions.
