Conversion problem please help

Hi, i'm having some trouble converting mpg to avi with virtual dub. AFter i set all my setting and i start the converting proccess, but it won't start. The status will popup and tell me it's converting... but it doens't make any progress. It's stuck at 0% forever, i've try leaving it on for 4 hours but still the same. any help?
Here's how i do it

1. open mpg file to convert
2. Video to Full Processing (what's the difference between full proccessing and normal proccessing...)
3. Video compression (i've try using Divx Slow Motion and Divx 4.01, still the same problem) I set the video bit stream to 750 kilobit per second
4. Audio to Full proccessing
5. Choose Avi Audio
6. Audio compression - 128kps
7. Save Avi
after i save my avi, the status window popup but the encoding doesn't start thought, it's just stuck at 0%, i've try it alot of time with different setting but no luck. And i've try leaving it there for 4 hours but still same problem. I'm trying to convert mpg to avi. Can someone please help

I don't use virtual dub much but I had a similiar problem not long ago.

Open your mpg and under audio and video select "Direct Stream Processing" and see if that does the trick.
