When I tried converting my rm to AVI it created two files and one was a *.dat file. I'm not exactly sure what this file is and I don't know what to open it w, cause none of the programs on my computer will open it. Beyond that I can't play the files that I converted cause all I get is sound in the second file. Does anyone have any idea what my problem is w/ either of these?

Have you tried playing the dat file in WMP? If not, right click and choose "open with" and choose media player. See if it will play then.
