  1. I have some avi video that plays fine in Media Player Classic, but when I input in TMPGEnc DVD Author3, the video is upside down (and appears upside down in the authored DVD when played back in Media Player Classic). I used GSpot and it said the video is XVID.
Then I used Total Video Converter and converted the XVID to DVIX. I used GSpot again and confirmed that the file was now indeed DIVX. The DIVX file played just fine in TMPGEnc DVD Author3. My question is: Why does TMPGEnc DVD Author3 appear to play and process XVID upside down.?

There used to be a sticky on this (possibly still is - have you looked ?) which, I believe, talked about updating the codecs for the video in question. Use MediaInfo or g-spot to determine what codec it is, and update to a more recent version. (And look for the sticky in question to confirm the details)

This problem is not about authoring, but in the conversion stage.

  5. Well, this is all very confusing, but with the above answers, I appear to have solved the problem. (See screenshot 1) Under Start>All Programs> ffdshow, I clicked on VFW configuration (circled in red). Sounds like something to do with war. Then I put a check mark in "Flip Video". (See screenshot 2). I looked for possible bad side effects after doing this, but so far couldn't find any. The XVID now played correctly in TMPGEnc DVD Author3. Media Player Classic still played other videos in the correct way. DIVX still played correctly in TMPGEnc DVD Author3.By the way, if I selected "video decoder configuration" (see screenshot 1) and put a check mark in "Flip video", then Media Player Classic would play videos upside down.
