    Hello,

Example of my problem (camera glitch) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9DSo8W4acM

I put together a bi-weekly show so I've been doing alot of capturing/recording and have noticed some significant camera glitches. These glitches persist even when I try to re-capture and ruin the specific part of footage in which it occurs. I'm using JVC mini-dv tapes and do not re-use any tape more than 3 times.
Any ideas as to what this is and how it can be avoided.

    Thanks,
    T.

Give the youtube video a few seconds to load, i jacked up the quality a bit so you could all see the problem clearly.

Because it happens in the same place every thing I would suspect the tape is damaged or you had dirty heads when you recorded, causing a glitch at recording time. You might be able to get a better result from a different camera, but if the problem happened when recording it may not be salvageable.

It looks like a capture glitch. Do you see this happen when playing the tape directly to a TV? If so, it was recorded that way.

Yes, it was recorded that way as the problem does appear on the TV, on the camera viewfinder, etc...

Any ideas how to prevent such a recording glitch from happening in the first place (ie. different tape brands, cleaning tape heads)?
    Thanks,
    T.

    higher quality tape for one
    new tapes for another
when you reuse your tapes 3 times, you're just recording new glitches each time

Is this a high "mileage" camcorder? Maybe it needs a pro service cleaning and lube.

No, this is a fairly new camcorder (purchased early September).

So I guess I should be following the suggestions of changing tape brands and/or not reusing tapes?
If changing tape brands, any suggestions? I've been careful to only use JVC tapes thus far in the camcorder, but I guess one switch shouldn't hurt...

I've never experienced the problem you have. If the camcorder is still in warranty get it checked at an authorized service center. Show them the tape.

I've had similar glitches with one of my Panasonic cameras. It's the camera. Only happens in lower light. Would not happen in daylight. I had to insert edit closeups randomly around the glitches. Never did fix the camera. I was professionally reviewed and complimented for the editing technique. Little did the reviewer know that I was insert editing closeups because of camera glitches. Some tapes were worse than others, but it was the camera.
