error, what does it mean?

hi,
i just started using ffmpegX, i followed the steps deschibed in the tutorial (http://ffmpegx.com/dvd_sub.html)
After I opened the subtitles file I want to click preview, but I get some error message saying
'can't get text item 3 of "No Video". (-1728)'

can someone tell me what that means?

ffmpegX has two Preview buttons, which may be a bit confusing. The Preview button at top is for previewing what has been encoded while the encoding is still going. The Preview button at the lower right in the Filters tab is for previewing settings (subtitles, crop, audio track) before encoding.
