I have a movie in avi format that came as 2 files. I tried to join and convert them into one file to put on a dvd (using AVI2DVD) but I got the message the files had different resolutions and couldn't be joined. I checked and sure enough one is 704 x 432 and the other 640 x 384. What do I do now? Is there a program that would allow me to change the resolution of one file to match the other?

p.s. I am a complete newbie so be gentle

  2. Hi-

They can be converted to DVD without having been joined. You can encode them separately and join them during authoring. I don't know anything about AVI2DVD, but to join them before converting to DVD will mean (at the very least) converting the resolution of one to that of the other with another encode, and the less encoding you do the better it will be for the end result. Can't you add them both separately?

How do I go about encoding files separately and joining them during authoring? AVI2DVD seems to be doing all of these steps authomatically. After it is done with the avi file I end up with a dvd folder with audio and video files in it and and iso file that I use to burn the thing to a dvd (using imgburn). If I convert files separately with AVI2DVD I will end up with two iso files ready to be burned. Should I look for a program that just encodes and then for one that just authors dvd?
Sorry for being such a newbie

Yes, use an mpg encoder + an authoring app, not an allinone converter. Look left under Convert for guides on AVI to DVD.
