I would like to capture some video game footage that I can upload to YouTube. I'm using an external capture card and recording straight into VirtualDub. My question is this: should I be compressing the audio and video during capture, or should I capture the video and audio raw and then compress it after?
Thanks!

Always capture raw/highest quality settings you have the cpu and space for.
You can try different compressions after the fact.
