That's certainly your right, but how many times do I and other people have to tell you that the MII discs are OK? The MIS discs are 100% great, no doubt about that, but I have used many of the MII discs and they are fine. I have 2 burns of MII that don't play very well in my old Philips DVP-642, but my new Toshiba HD DVD player plays them without problems. I have no coasters and the inability of my old player to play 2 discs completely correctly is the entire basis of my opinion that they are slightly less good compared to MIS discs, which cause no problems on either of my players. The problem could be with my player and not with the discs themselves for these 2 MII discs.

If Verbatim chooses to move all DL production to India, there is nothing we can do about that. If you want to abandon the format as a result of the move, that is certainly your right to do so. I'm just not convinced that others need to follow your example.

That's incorrect, according to my experience and tests...
Based on burning a lot of both the Made in Singapore (MIS) and Made in India (MII) kind, the MII are clearly 2nd Class media with 5-10% coasters, while the MIS produce <1% coasters. I've also done comparative burns and scans with Nero CD-DVD Speed. The MII have much higher PI error totals, and generally higher PI failure totals. Physical examination of the discs is also educational, because the MII have visible defects embedded in the disc as well as frayed edges on the outer rim so they generally won't burn to full capacity.

That's why I've stocked up on the MIS -- whenever I found them on a good sale, and could confirm (in person) what they were. Right now I have a good supply, but would likely salt some more away if I see them. Maybe even some of the 10x, although they are much harder to find on sale.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

  4. I was just in future shop here in Canada and after a complete drought of MIS 2.4x spindles, they had a bunch in today (and on sale). They had a bunch of the old style labeled ones (but they were MII) and a bunch of the new style label (which a few stacks were MIS and the others MII). I grabbed a few spindles of the MIS ones.

They've change the design on the discs as well as the packing. The discs are lighter in Weight, the surface is shiner (not matte), so we'll have to see how they burn.

Hopefully even though they've changed the design of the discs, that the MIS ones will still be superior to the MII ones?

I noticed yesterday at Best Buy while I was trying to spend my Rewards rebates before they expire, that there are two spindle sizes currently available. There are 15 disc and 20 disc spindles, and there were old and new package versions of both. Anyway, all of the 15 disc spindles were MIS and the 20 disc spindles (which are more popular) were MII.

I've never had any problems with either (knock on wood), but I ended up getting the 15 disc spindles anyway.

Was at Future Shop in Victoria BC yesterday. I had a rain-check for some Verbatim DLs (20 pk).

To my surprise, they were all MIS. Their web page showed no stock for the two stores in my area-
So don't trust it. Go in....
