Hey I was just wondering if 4 hours is a normal
loading time for the FCP Studio 2.

It seems long. I guess since it's over 50 gigs.

    Anyone else have this issue?

No, this isn't normal, unless your trying to run it on a
lowly G4 with low ram ( say a 400mhz, with 128mb of ram).

I can' tell what machine you are on, can you fill out
your computer specs in your profile?
( look at mine if you need an example)

as for your problem, is this from just first installing
it from disc, and then first launch?
If so 30 mins max for registration,
checking your video card and ram,
    and first intializing the program.

Try booting off of the OS Disc, running disc utility,
    and repairing permissions.

    I have the new 24" 2.8 iMac
running 500 gig hard drive and 4 GB of ram.
I have no clue why it took so long.
I wonder if I have a bad (lemon) system.

Is the system unresponsive in other areas?
Does sit take longer to say open Safari or iMovie?

Did you boot off of the Install Disc 1 and run repair permissions
from Disc Utility, as described in your iMac Manual?
    did it fix anything?

I would not say the machine is a lemon, unless something else is
seriously going wrong ( bad video, extensive Hard drive or fan noise)
so it still sounds to me like the directory needs cleanup.
Run Disc Utility first, then FCP Rescue second.

By load I meant install. To install FCP it took 4+ hours.
It loads within 10 seconds when I click it. Maybe I said it wrong.

Ok, then yes, first Install of all Studio Components does take longer
than say a new install of Leopard, which takes an hour.

    So, this is normal behavior.

  7. I ripped all of the disks to an external hard drive, so if i have to reinstalls, or reimage a machine at work it takes only about an hour to install the whole studio. same thing with photoshop and all other applications that have to be installed on all the machines.

This is my first Mac, plus I invested a lot into it so I was a little worried. I brought it to the apple store and found out that I installed the start up kit and leopard wrong, causing this.

    Here is what I did:
    1. installed leopard
    2. installed the complete install disc 1
    3. installed the complete install disc 2
    4. installed FCP2

Here's what I should have done:
    1. installed only the extra's on the install disc 1
    2. installed only the extra's on the install disc 2
    3. installed leopard
    4. installed FCP2

But like I said it's my first Mac so things are still a little strange to me.

Thanks for all your help guys.

    whoa, you hadn't mentioned you
installed Leopard first, then did the whole studio
    in your original post?!?!?

no wonder you got a round trip of four hours!

Part of that was Leopard going through and optomizing
and cleaning up it's installer logs and files.
Your right, your order for what you should have done
    or

    1. install Leopard
    2. restart, allowing optimization to occur.
    3. Install FCP
    restart, allowing optimization to occur
    4. installed extras as needed.

your welcome though, and welcome to our corner of the world!
