  1. The company I work for is about to switch all out wireless plans to Verizon because we get a hefty discount from one of the partnered companies with deal with. This new plan is offering the Motorola W385 free or the LG8350 for $10. I'm sure there are other options as well, but these are the two they are promoting. I'm trying out which of these two is the better phone and if there are any other recommendations for other Verizon phones. I know the LG 8300 was highly recommended but since that is no longer available and the 8350 is supposedly inferior I'm left to wonder which direction to look in. I personally don't care much for cell phones and a basic model would suit me fine but the other guys here use them religiously so they want something pretty good. Music functions aren't really important and I can't see them using much in the way of text. The boss wants a camera phone for sure though. Any input is appreciated.

I've long found LG phones quite superior to others currently on the market. I used to be a Nokia fan, but not anymore. That VX8350 looks a lot like the VX8300, which is definitely a nice phone.

Verizon tip: People in stores are not actually "official" Verizon employees, even the so-called "Verizon stores". Go f**cking figure. If you want to make a change to your service plan, do it online, and then call the 800 number the next day to confirm the change was made. Those are so-called "real" employees. This is from the lips of a corporate officer to me and now to you, it's not just something I heard. I had some issues last year, completely the fault of Verizon (all was sorted out to my satisfaction). Charter is opposite. Go to the local cable office, as the people on the 800 number tend to screw up everything 9 times out of 10. They are outsourced in another country and don't know anything.

  3. The 8350 is suppose to be decent but the 8300 was far superior from what I've been reading. Evidently the 8350 is a cheapy version. I've always liked Mororola myself even though they have less features for a higher price. LG has always seemed to be hit or miss. My girlfriend has had several LGs. One will be awesome, the next is a total piece of junk. I'll have to see if I can get a trial phone from the local Verizon office.

I tried calling Verizon the other day for some info on the wireless plans. I got someone in India. They finally said they'd transfer me to New York since they couldn't help me out. When I got to the NY phone support they gave me a menu of numbers to press for different departments. Too bad their support system evidently doesn't recognize button presses. You can press numbers endlessly and you'll just listen to that menu over and over. I ran into that before with their internet department. I though it was a glitch in the system. Now I think they just don't want the customer getting through to support.

The 800 number for billing / service changes has always been in Phoenix.

They don't use India that I know of.

  5. Well whoever I got was not American. I had to deal with 3 different people and they all seemed to have a heavy Indian accent.

Are you sure it wasn't a Spanish accent? Habla espanol?

I call 611, which is the same as the longer 800 number for service help. Maybe you're talking to sales associates? Maybe those are in India?

Techs and service definitely is not. The last few people I had were black or hispanic, going from their voices.

  7. I couldn't say for certain. I never really got as far as tech support. I just got run in circles for about 20 minutes. Oh well! We'll get it figured out at some point.
