  1. I am really interested in the Pioneer, but it seems like they removed PAL VCD support from the 440. Seems like even the Sony, Toshiba and old Pioneers play PAL very well. Is it really true? Is it just 440 or does 444 have the same problem. It is hard to believe that Pioneer of all people would do that. In the DVD player report, only one guy has reported problem with VCD. It supposedly cuts off the top and bottom. I am curious if more people are having the same problem.

  3. I was the one that reported problems with the Pioneer dv-440. Ill explain wh this is. Before i had this dvd player, i got an apex 500w and i didnt like it to well as black handled poorly. Yet this dvd player had a feature that will convert Pal movies into ntsc so that it will not get cut off but on sides ( that is normal as the movie isnt formatted for a tv etc). However the problem with the DV-440, is that it does not take a pal movie and make it ntsc for Us tv's. Therefore, what it does, is when you have a movie that is 4;3 pal, in order to play the movie, it will full screen the picture. As a result, u get the top cut off on the top. With 16:9 pal, it will make the picture bigger but not cut off. 4;3 is larger and therefore suffers from this. I would like tohear back from baldrick to whether a 4;3 movie on a dv-444 does this or do pal 4:3 movie maintain their integrity? I gurantee you its not just the movie as i got several i have tried that are 4:3. anyway let me know thanks and hope i helped.
