I have been trying to find a solution for a while, other than formatting my computer. I can't get x264 or h264 to play in WMP. I have no problems getting it to play in VLC or Media Player Classic. I am running vista and Windows Media Player 11. I want to get it to play in WMP so that I can use Media Portal or MCE. Instead I get an error every time I try to start the file. I have reinstalled Ffdshow and continue to get the error. When i play the video in MPC the ffdshow icon shows in the tray and everything works fine, but it wont work at all in WMP. Can someone please help.

First it says windows has encountered a problem while trying to play this file. The box then says close or Web help. When I click on web help I get this error: C00D11B1

    Here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0....nalid=80004005

It says it is something with the sound driver... but everything else works fine. I can't figure this out.... Thanks for trying to help.

Try dropping the file into Gspot 2.70 and see what it says. If you are missing a codec, audio or video, it should tell you which one. You can also 'render' the file and it will show what codecs and processes it uses to play it. Audio formats can be varied and you may not have the proper codec for it.

Alternatively, you might try VLC player as it should play H.264 without adding codecs. It's a good test to see if you have a codec problem.

I did use gspot and a bunch others and none were able to tell me what was missing. I settled on reformatting the computer. Now it works fine.

Except... all of a sudden the white areas on the videos are all messed up.. there are black swirlys all over it. It is primarily wherever it is bright on the screen. It doesn't happen in VLC player. Can't figure out what happened. Can't figure out how to look up help. When I type in google.. no clue what to look for... Any ideas?
