Please can I ask for some expert advice ?

I have a number of family videos that were recorded in LP mode on a Canon E300 camcorder. A few years ago, the camcorder broke and I replaced it with a Canon V500E which I thought would give me compatability. This is OK for my SP recordings, but I have no way to play back my LP recordings.

To solve this, I tried to get an old Canon camcorder - not many about and the one I managed to acquire from ebay did not work.

So instead, I purchased a SONY EV-C100 player, however this also does not appear to help. Have I purchased something completely incompatible ? I appear to be pouring money down a black hole, so now I would like to ask for some advice (better late than never). Any ideas how I might do this ?

    Thanks,
    Simon

iirc the e300 wasn't hi8 but rather standard video8. check the ev-c100 manual to see if v8 lp playback is supported along with hi8 lp.

Save money and use a good dub house. They have the right equipment.
