I have successfully copied DVDs using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

Now I have installed Bittorrent and have downloaded a movie. It came over as "VLC media file (.avi)" which I assume simply means it is an .AVI file.
I couldn't figure out how to put it on DVD. I eventially determined it needed to be converted to a DVD file. I converted it using WinFF. It now is an "VLC media file (.mpg)". Now I am unable to figure out how to get the Mpeg to a DVD.

What am I doing wrong? What is the process I should be following? Will all file obtained with Bittorrent be .AVI?

Tell me what ever else I need to know to get started.

    Thanks.

Well, assuming, for the moment, that you have downloaded a movie to which you have the rights (public domain, creative commons etc), your first mistake is not doing enough reading and searching.

At the top of each forum is a search field, and also a set of stickies covering most common questions.

To your left are a number of sections, including HOW TO, which is full of guides to most things video related, and Tools, which allows you to look for tools by conversion type (e.g. AVI to DVD)

Finally, there is the User Guides forum, which lists thousands of guides written by members.

If your player can playback Divx/Xvid encoded files then you may not have to convert it at all, just burn it as data. If you do need to convert it I would recommend FAVC or DVD Flick (free) or ConvertXtoDVD (not free), and then burn with Imgburn in Build mode.
