Hi to all of you in the video world. may be you can help me with this : When I shoot my videos using Panasonic GS 37 (mini Dv format ) camcorder usually the date and the time is recorded on the video. However when I captur the video to my pc, using Roxio easy mc 9, the date and time do not show on the captured footage. I like to have the dates appearing on the edited videos. Can anyone tell me how ? Thanks

  2. Typically, the date/time isn't recorded onto the video itself. Instead, the camcorder adds it to the analog output (i.e., when connected to a TV etc) when you play the tape. All of the date/time data are encoded into the digital recording and are sent via FireWire to the computer. Software is needed that can decode that information and add it to the video.

You can use our free software to capture the video and, at the same time, add the date/time. It will be as if the camcorder had added it. (See link in signature).

It is important to add the date/time before any editing because some editing software destroys the encoded information.

Note, our software uses a simple font so that the date/time/timecode/camera settings etc can be added on the fly during capture. If you need more fanciful text (colored, shadows etc) there are other freeware programs available. However, you will need to capture the video first and then add the date/time afterwards.

  4. If it is simply capturing the DV from the camcorder and saving it as an AVI file without doing anything else then it should do. It's easy to check - capture with the Roxio software and open the AVI file in our software. You should see a small display with the time/date info. As I mentioned before, if you don't want fancy-looking text, our software can do the capturing and add the time/date at the same time. The captured files can then be opened by the Roxio software.
