    Hello,

I have converted all my dvd's to mpeg-4 which played beautifully on my ipod. I purchashed a samsung YH-999GS assuming it played mpeg-4. Silly me. It plays wmv or some obscure file type called asf. So rather that go through the time consuming process of converting to avi I need a shortcut that converts mpeg-4 to wmv. I found Super and tried it but it always gives me an error message. On the basis of this error message I have tried with and without directshow decode but with no luck. Perhaps some setting is wrong. Anyone come accross this before or know of any other free, quick and high quality converters. I'm not asking much am I.

    What is the error message?

AutoMKV can convert directly from a DVD to wmv, click on it for guides.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think Super only generates one error message as follows:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Possible causes of encoding failure

An error has occured while encoding.
The most common possible reasons causing error:

If you did not check "DirectShow Decode", you may
try to check it on, as you may have a working ActiveX filter
installed on your PC that could read the codecs of your input file.

Your input source file may not be a valid multimedia clip
due to a damaged header, corrupted/segmented data or truncated
file. Your input file may have unsupported codecs. Verify the
structure and the used codecs of your input file by double clicking
it. The Media Analysis Box opens to display its info, codecs and
    other internal data.

There was an interruption of the encoding process due to
Disk space, Slow PC, RAM drainage, CPU overload or a simple
    user manual interruption. Try again.

Please discuss all your encoding errors at Super(c)
    forum http://www.eRightsoft.com/Supforum.html

I tried checking/unchecking DirectShow Decode. The mp4 file plays normally
and does not seem corrupt. If I double click on it ir plays in Quicktime. I have tried
encoding with services off etc (FSAutostart). I have plenty of free disk space, a fiarly quick
PC and I didn't interrupt. Is there some other test for unsupported codecs ?

    Thanks in advance
