  1. Please remember I am a newbie.

Most of the time I can use DVD Shrink to analyze a movie and back it up to my hard drive and then Nero to burn it to disc. In the past when I got errors (usually "cyclic redundancy check" and this time too) then I would open DVD Fab Decrypter. I guess my version needed upgrading and then I would end up having to purchase the newest version so now I am looking for the next freeware solution.

I think the info out there is confusing me because I downloaded RipIt4Me and received an error. The error came after I chose to create a PSL file and then Rip DVD. The error is "the folder is not a DVD folder" and "File does not exist" as in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. Why does RipIt4Me automatically open with DVD FabDecrypter. I added DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink as tools.

When I downloaded DVD Decrypter to use it as the initial step instead of RipIt4Me, I received an I/O error.

What is the issue for me? What do I not know that is messing me up? AnyDVD charges too. Ideas anyone?

Use the freeware DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER.
    http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

DVD DECRYPTER is no longer updated as well as RIPIT4ME. DVDFAB DECRYPTER is updated regularly to meet the new dvd copy encryptions that are usually with newly released dvd movies.

DVDFab Decrypter should be used to rip the DVD to your HDD. Shrink and DVD Decrypter are now to old to do modern releases on their own.

A Cyclic Redundancy Check error usually indicates that you have scratches or finger-prints on your disc, although if you are getting this from DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter it could simply be because they cannot handle the protection.

  4. I have now downloaded the DVDFab HD Decrypter 4, but I am unsure of what order to run these in and what my steps are to get to the final goal. Remember I am a newbie. You tell me do steps 1, 2, 3 and I follow them blindly until they don't work anymore.

I did try running the movie through DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 and then opened the newly created video.iso files with DVD Shrink and I still got the error. No scratches on DVD as I can play it over and over on several different mediums with no issues. Please help.

  6. Yes, some still do so I know it isn't the hardware. I am getting those out of the way while I wait on an answer about how to get these others burned.

Just run the dvd movie through DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER to rip the vob files to your hard drive. Don't rip in ISO mode. Then open up DVD SHRINK and choose open files. Find that VIDEO_TS FOLDER that DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER created and open it up so DVD SHRINK can compress the files. After the shrinking is done then use IMGBURN to burn to disc.

Here's a few guides that's handy to use for a newbie:

    http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php
guides for DVD SHRINK version's 3.1 & 3.05 is about the same.

Just use DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER to rip the files to your hard drive first. Also make sure you're using the latest version because newer copy right encryptions are always being released.

It sounds like your original dvd is defective. Return it and demand a replacement.

  10. Thanks Budz! When I run DVD Shrink it just shuts down when it is finished. (Shuts down as in closes with no warning.) Does that mean I should move forward with the burning process? Is it okay to use Nero as that is a program I purchased to burn and it always worked in the past. This time I just can't get past the ripping/decrypting/decoding steps. If not then I will go get IMGBurn.

To the other guy - unfortunately, it is not the DVD. I have 4 of them built up that won't make it through my old normal route. I am sure the movie companies are just placing more decryption on these new suckers.

  11. One more question. How do I make sure I am not running in ISO mode? I don't see an option to change or otherwise under settings.

msdker NERO is shitty to use for dvd burning. Use IMGBURN to burn dvd media.

One more question. How do I make sure I am not running in ISO mode? I don't see an option to change or otherwise under settings.
Do you mean running ISO mode in DVD SHRINK? I've always used the VIDEO_TS folder that has all the vob files that DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER created. I've never used "OPEN IMAGE DISC".

When you open up DVD SHRINK click on the icon that says, "OPEN FILES". From there a box will pop open, find that VIDEO_TS folder that DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER to created for you & click on it. Then click on the "BACKUP" icon, a window will pop open. In the "SELECT BACKUP TARGET" tab click pull down the menu so you can choose " ISO IMAGE FILE", then for "SELECT TARGET IMAGE FILE" would mean where you want that ISO image that DVD SHRINK creates to saved at.

In DVD SHRINK click on "EDIT" then "PREFERENCES", then the "I/O FILE" tab. Uncheck where it says enable NERO burning. This way you can use IMGBURN to burn your ISO image that you've created with DVD SHRINK. Trying doing the steps above on ripping the dvd movie first w/DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER then use DVD SHRINK to compress. If you're using DVD SHRINK to rip the files it's not going to work at all since there's new copy protection encryptions on newly released movies. You have to use a dedicated ripping software like DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER before using DVD SHRINK.

Hope this helps you have a better understanding of the process. If all of the above fail then it could be your drive is just a poor reader or the commercial dvd disc is defective in some way.

  13. I had decided to quit beating a dead horse but I just cannot get around this issue.

DVD Shrink will not stay open long enough for me to backup the file.

I open the VIDEO/TS file from the folder that DVDFab HD Decrypter created and DVD Shrink will analyze it. Then DVD Shrink just closes. I don't ever get the option to click Backup.

My next step was to backup in DVD Shrink, then burn with IMGBurn.

    Any ideas on this?

It would be more helpful if you posted your computer specs in your profile. Seems to me there's a software conflict within your computer system.

If you're able to rip with DVDFAB DECRYPTER successfully then there isn't anything wrong w/your dvdrom/dvd burner as far as reading goes.

I'd suggest you also scan your computer for viruses and spyware.
